Accreditation
The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
The University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in business administration.
Business Administration is a diversified major designed for students who need a broad background, whether for managing businesses of their own or for taking a position with a large business where they will receive more specialized training.
Coursework includes a required core of business courses—plus nine credits selected from each of three business emphasis areas: accounting; business education, information, and technology; economics; finance and real estate; insurance and risk management; management; management information systems; marketing; or operations and supply chain management. Courses must be taken at the 300-400 level and not duplicate business core courses.
In addition, students complete the University's Foundational Studies Program, which provides the knowledge students need in critical thinking, leadership, and interpersonal and communication skills. A complementary business minor is recommended but not required.
The most distinctive characteristic of the Business Administration Program—the most popular major in the University's Scott College of Business—is the customized approach to selecting the specific set of courses that supports each student's career goals. The program is ideal for students who desire a broad education rather than a narrow focus, and want the flexibility to build an appropriate program of study.
Through the University's many partnerships with business and industry, students have the opportunity to engage in applied research and inquiry. Students apply what they learn through hands-on inquiry, research, and life-changing field experiences that bring knowledge to life and give students real-world understanding.
The Scott College of Business provides many leadership opportunities through its professional student organizations. Business administration majors qualify for membership in the organizations in their areas of emphasis, as well as for business fraternities, Delta Sigma Pi and Alpha Kappa Psi.
Special Note: The Business Administration Program is offered on the Terre Haute campus. The program is also offered via online learning.
Graduates pursue a variety of career paths and typically begin in entry-level positions in their primary emphasis areas in such fields as banking, brokerage, corporate management, information technology management, public administration, small business entrepreneurship, and many others.
The Business Administration Program also provides an excellent foundation for graduate work that ultimately leads to advanced degrees in areas such as law, public administration, and business.
The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
In addition, all programs in the Scott College of Business are accredited by the AACSB International.
Students have many sources of financial support for their studies, including financial aid, work-study programs, veterans' benefits, and special scholarships for entering freshmen and transfer students.
In addition, the Scott College of Business offers a variety of scholarships. Incoming freshmen may apply for the Networks Scholarship. Scholarships also are available for continuing students in business administration.
