The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
The University offers a bachelor of arts (BA) and a bachelor of science (BS) in elementary education.
The Elementary Education Program prepares students to be general classroom teachers at the elementary grade levels. This program leads to a generalist teaching license at both the primary and intermediate elementary grades (K-6).
Coursework includes professional education courses, along with Foundational Studies and additional subject matter requirements.

The Elementary Education Program prepares students for teaching licensure in the elementary, primary, and intermediate school setting. Students may add additional licensure areas by completing minors in early childhood education, English as a new language, middle school math, and reading.
Our graduates find careers throughout the country—and are recognized statewide and nationwide as outstanding educators.
Special Note: According to the U.S. Department of Labor, job opportunities for teachers over the next ten years will vary from good to excellent, depending on the locality, grade level, and subject taught. Teachers who are geographically mobile and who obtain licensure in more than one subject should have a distinct advantage in finding a job.

The Teacher Preparation Program at Indiana State University is recognized throughout Indiana—and the nation—for the quality of its graduates. The program was established in 1865.
Indiana State University has earned national accreditation by demonstrating excellence in the areas of content and pedagogy, clinical experiences, selectivity, program impact, and capacity for continuous improvement. ISU's Teacher Preparation Programs meets rigorous national standards for educator preparation set by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. CAEP is the only educator preparation accreditor recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Students have many sources of financial support for their studies, including financial aid, work-study programs, veterans' benefits, and special scholarships for entering freshmen and transfer students.
In addition, the Bayh College of Education offers a variety of scholarships and awards.
